Summary
This article assesses aerobic composting of sludge from a seafood processing plant mixed with cow manure, rice straw and sugarcane bagasse, and tests the resulting compost on Celosia argentea. Temperature, moisture, pH and volume loss were tracked throughout composting. After 70 days the product met the requirements, with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium levels in line with the Vietnamese standard 10 TCN 526:2002; the MH3 and MH4 mixtures retained nutrients best. Plants grown in compost-amended soil developed more strongly than those in untreated soil. A genetic algorithm was used to estimate the optimal ratio of soil to organic fertiliser, giving a value of about 1 to 0.995.
