Where Innovation, Technology and Climate Adaptation Solutions Converge
The Challenge
Saline intrusion, prolonged drought, and lack of clean water are severely affecting the lives of millions in the delta region.
Mission
Born from the collaboration between Tra Vinh University and Saxion University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands), STARS is dedicated to researching and implementing sustainable water solutions.
Core Values
Capacity
STARS Water Center develops and transfers climate-adaptive water solutions for communities in the Mekong Delta.
Developing nature-based solutions, low-cost water and wastewater treatment technologies, and WEFE Nexus models for the Mekong Delta.
Integrating digital platforms and modern technologies for efficient water management, addressing water scarcity and saline intrusion.
Organizing international student exchanges, technology operation training, and practical environmental education for communities and youth.
Deploying water collection and treatment systems for drought-affected areas and transferring Aquaponics and shrimp–rice farming models to local communities.
Featured Projects
The "Eco-Park Wetlands: From Wastewater to Resource" project by STARS WATER – TVU placed Top 3 at the UNESCO Water Challenge for Young Innovators 2025, selected from 85 teams nationwide. The model uses constructed wetlands with native plants and recycled materials to treat domestic wastewater into safe irrigation water, while creating an outdoor STEM education space at Tra Vinh University campus.

STEM Education
In partnership with UNIQLO Vietnam (Fast Retailing), we implement the "Clean Water Support" project. Phase 3 (2025): installed 10 rainwater storage and treatment systems for disadvantaged households in Long Hoa commune, Chau Thanh, Tra Vinh, directly benefiting over 80 residents. Phase 4 (2026): installed a 20,000-liter water storage and filtration system plus eco-wetland wastewater treatment at Hoa Minh Primary School, Vinh Long, supporting 540 teachers and students.

540 Teachers & Students
A UNDP (AFCIA)-funded program (2023–2024) implemented with the Vietnamese Association of Community Colleges and Tra Vinh University across Tra Vinh, Ben Tre, and Soc Trang provinces. The project installed 30 rainwater storage bags with automated irrigation for agriculture and 32 storage tanks with multi-tier filtration for domestic use, delivered 20+ training workshops, and directly served 60 households with 300+ beneficiaries.

3 Coastal Provinces
In partnership with Heineken Vietnam, Central Retail, and Mapme, we implement the "Rainwater Storage and Treatment Systems for Domestic Use" program on Quoi Thien island, Vinh Long province. The system collects rainwater from rooftops, stores it in tanks, and filters/treats it, helping 6 impoverished households access sustainable clean water and improve drought resilience.
