Summary

This is the final report of the Mekong River Delta case study within the Deltas under Pressure project, which ran from 2019 to 2022. It describes the state of the food system transition in the delta and how the project contributed to it. The work was organised in three clusters: breeding for stress tolerance, with pot experiments in Wageningen; adaptation of crop-livestock farms to salinity, drought, flooding and heat, using focus group discussions, in-depth household interviews and a net house experiment on crop responses to different levels of saline irrigation; and water quality and quantity under a rising sea level, covering water management, desalination, rainwater harvesting and food security. At project level the team developed guidelines to support food system transitions.
