STARS Water Center – Advancing Integrated Solutions for Water, Energy, and Food
Climate change, resource scarcity, environmental pollution, and growing challenges to water, energy, and food security have made the development of integrated and sustainable solutions more critical than ever. The Water–Energy–Food (WEF) Nexus has emerged as a key approach to optimizing resource use, enhancing climate resilience, and promoting sustainable development.
Established at Tra Vinh University, STARS Water Center is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to advancing research, innovation, and technology transfer to develop scientific and technological solutions for water, energy, and food systems. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the Center bridges scientific research with real-world applications, delivering practical and scalable solutions that address local needs while contributing to the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta and other regions facing similar challenges.
The Center's research focuses on water treatment technologies, water resources management, water reuse, constructed wetlands, nature-based solutions, climate-smart agriculture, integrated water–energy–food systems, and the application of digital technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI) for resource monitoring and management.
STARS Water Center embraces an applied research approach in which scientific ideas are transformed into practical solutions through technology development, pilot-scale demonstration, field validation, and technology transfer. This process helps bridge the gap between research and implementation, ensuring that innovations are effective, locally appropriate, and scalable for wider adoption.
Beyond research, the Center serves as a hub for academic excellence and innovation, fostering collaboration among faculty members, researchers, students, industry partners, government agencies, and national and international organizations. Through education, technical consulting, technology transfer, and collaborative research, STARS contributes to capacity building, promotes innovation, and strengthens partnerships between academia, industry, and society.
